The latest round of hockey fixtures saw several closely contested matches across the various divisions as the teams looked to climb the league standings.

In the Ladies Premiership, Vikings Ladies A, sponsored by Cannacord Wealth and Appleby, were narrowly defeated 0–1 by Athena Healthcare Harlequins A in a competitive clash. Vikings dominated early possession and created several shooting opportunities in the opening stages but were unable to convert their chances.

The match remained competitive, with both sides creating opportunities. Vikings continued to apply pressure and earned a first-half penalty corner after Dani Murphy drove around the edge of the D to win a foot, though the chance went unconverted.

Athena Healthcare Harlequins looked to build attacks through quick ball movement across the pitch, but Vikings stayed structured, closing down early and limiting scoring opportunities. Harlequins earned a cluster of short corners in a short space of time, yet Vikings defence held firm and kept them from converting.

Despite Vikings’ effort and determination, Harlequins’ Mollie Dennett found a late breakthrough in the final ten minutes to secure the winning goal.

A highlight for Vikings was Ellie Robb, who impressed on her A-team debut, stepping up confidently and contributing well in the game.

PotM were KT Errock (Vikings A) and Ela Blakemore (Harlequins A)

In Mens Division 1, Cronkbourne Bacchas B met Ramsey A.  Going into the tie, both teams were unbeaten, and the contest lived up to expectations with a tight and tense opening.

Ramsey were pushed back early as they sat deep in a compact defensive shape, resulting in a cagey first 25 minutes. Bacchas controlled possession but found it difficult to break down a disciplined Ramsey half-court press, with space limited in the attacking third.

As the final third of the first half approached, Bacchas were largely restricted to crash balls, either running out over the back line or being intercepted by the Ramsey defence.

The breakthrough came at the 25-minute mark when a rare mistake from the Ramsey back line allowed Bacchas to intercept the ball just five yards from the D. A quick counter created a two-on-one with the goalkeeper, and Will Wiseman calmly slotted the ball into the bottom-right corner.

With the deadlock broken, Bacchas continued to probe a disciplined Ramsey defence into the second half. As they searched for a second goal, Bacchas began to overcommit, allowing Ramsey opportunities to counterattack.

However, 15 minutes into the second half, some excellent link-up play between Will Giddins and Conor Maher created space at the top of the D, where Maher struck a composed shot into the bottom corner to double Bacchas’ lead.

Ten minutes later, Bacchas sealed the result. A well-saved effort from Wiseman was followed up by Gareth Craig, who reacted quickest to flick the rebound in at the near post, making the final score 3-0.

It was a tough, competitive encounter for both sides, but Cronkbourne Bacchas closed out the tie undefeated and sitting top of the Men’s First Division

PotM: Sam Robertson (Cronkbourne Bacchas) and Ian Woods (Ramsey A)

The second U15s match was a very even and well contested game between the two young sides.
