The 2025-26 Manx Hockey Association junior season is nearing completion, and has seen over 450 U15 members competing across various age groups and in various competitions.

While a few U15 league matches are still to be played and a number of teams are still involved in England Hockey Competitions at Island and club level, the U10 and U12 Leagues and End of Season Tournaments (EOST) have concluded.

In the U10 Girls, Swales Flooring Harlequins were winners of both the league and the EOST, having won 17 out of 18 matches played, drawing the other and conceding no goals throughout the season –  a fabulous achievement! Haldane Fisher Valkyrs were runners in both competitions.

The U10 Boys league was closely contested between Vikings A , sponsored by Canaccord Heath and Appleby, and Valkyrs and with only one point between them, Vikings A were crowned League Champions.  In the EOST, the positions were flipped with Valkyrs A as winners and Vikings A runners up, where once again, only 1 point separated them.

The U12 Girls League was also won by Harlequins who once again did so without losing a match and only conceding 2 goals, with Valkyrs runners up. EOST winners were Castletown A , sponsored by J Qualtrough & Sons Ltd., who drew on points with Harlequins but pipped them on goal difference.

In the U12 Boys, Valkyrs were winners of the League and EOST, 6 points clear of Harlequins in second place in the league.  It was a closer contest in the End of Season Tournament where Vikings A were runners up by 2 points.

At the End of Season Tournaments, awards were made for the Players of the Year and Coaches Player of the Year in each club / team.

The U15 Mixed League is split into pre and post Christmas fixtures to allow for player movement between juniors into senior hockey over the course of the season.  Haldane Fisher Valkyrs U15 were the winners of the pre Christmas League and although there is still one round post Christmas fixtures to be played,  Castletown Sabres are 6 points ahead of their closest rivals so can be declared winners of the post Christmas League.

Manx Youth Games Training sessions continue across all clubs until May. To date, there have been over 1,500 individual attendances recorded. Approximately 25 teams are expected to participate in the official Manx Youth Games Day and a significant number will continue to play hockey at club level.

In the England Hockey In2Hockey competition (U12), Valkyrs won both the boys’ and girls’ tournaments. The runners-up were Harlequins (Girls) and Vikings (Boys).  Both Haldane Fisher Valkyrs teams and the Vikings boys, sponsored by Canaccord Wealth and Appleby, will travel to Macclesfield for the North West Finals on April 26th, with the chance to qualify for the National Finals in May.

None of this would be possible without the amazing team of volunteers in Manx Hockey .  From coaches and umpires to league organisers and committee members, the association extended a massive thank you to those who donate their time and energy.

“The success of junior hockey on the Island is a testament to our volunteers,” Kim Carney, MHA Chairperson, said “Everything they do is very much appreciated and is the reason our young players can enjoy such a high standard of competition.”
