The Premiership game between Haldane Fisher Valkyrs B and Bacchas B started quickly with Valkyrs putting Bacchas under immediate pressure, creating chances and testing the Bacchas back line. Ramsey Crookall Bacchas then began to retaliate with some great progressive midfield play. continued for most of the first half with both sides narrowly missing out on converting chances. The deadlock was eventually broken with a fast break from Bacchas B, creating a two on one with the defender and allowing George Mclear to score the opening goal.
The second half started much the same as the first half, however it was now Bacchas B applying the pressure. In Division 1, Zeta Group Harlequins B faced off against Castletown Cammags and were hungry for their first win this season after drawing against Valkyrs C last week.
The game started off slowly with even possession but after missing a couple of opportunities from corners Sam Neto stepped up and secured the first goal for the Quins side with a well taken flick.
Harlequins B built on this and with a run from the half way line around the Castletown Cammags’ defence Thomas Hird slipped it past the keeper to make it 2-0. Quins kept the pressure on, playing nice passing hockey and when Sean Dowling managed to get inside the Cammags’ D and with a hard push into the bottom corner he added another goal to make it 3-0 at half time.
Castletown Cammags, sponsored by J Qualtrough & Sons Ltd., came back out for the second, growing into the game with some good attacking play. They put pressure back on to Harlequins B and Cammags Helena Allen managed to slip it past the Quins keeper to get one back. The final result was 3-1 to Harlequins B.
PotM – Kerri Cooke (Harlequins B) and Andy Wignall (Castletown Cammags)
Next in division 1 was a well-fought clash between Vikings B and Ramsey 1s with both sides creating plenty of chances in a highly competitive contest and a match that who would be favourites for the title.
Atla RDA Ramsey 1s set a strong tempo from the opening push-back, applying early pressure and locking Vikings into their own half. Despite Ramsey’s high press restricting their options, Vikings B, sponsored by Canaccord Wealth and Appleby, struck first to take the lead through a Jon Cooper goal. Ramsey fought back determinedly before the break to see Alfie Melling score to draw level and leave the sides tied 1–1 at half-time.
In the second half Ramsey worked hard to keep Vikings to their own half and making them work hard to find the outlet. Through Vikings’ patient build up and good discipline they calmly built out from the back, looking for the right moments to break forward into the Ramsey 1s’ D.
Vikings B’s perseverance paid off as they nudged back ahead through a goal from Josh Kaighan, before Ramsey changed to a more attacking position to try and get back to an even score line. Vikings stood firm against the late push, with Molly Wheeler getting on the score sheet to secure a 3–1 victory thanks to Molly Wheeler.
