Introduction
The Manx Hockey Association (MHA) is committed to fostering a positive and respectful environment for all participants in the sport of hockey. In light of recent concerns raised about behaviour at games and events, the MHA Board wishes to remind everyone involved—players, officials, spectators, parents, and umpires—of the standards expected within our community.
Behaviour Expectations
During the latest MHA Board meeting, the topic of behaviour among players, officials, and spectators was once again brought to the forefront. The MHA has received several emails expressing concerns regarding conduct at various events. Let it be clear: inappropriate behaviour contravenes the values of our association and will not be tolerated.
To ensure that everyone is aware of the conduct expected, we urge all clubs and members to familiarise themselves with the England Hockey (EH) Respect Code of Ethics & Behaviour. This document outlines the standards and values upheld at every level of hockey and serves as a guide for maintaining the respect and dignity the sport deserves. You can access the code through the following link: England Hockey Code of Ethics and Behaviour.
For convenience, we have also attached a condensed version of the document, as the original file is quite large (15MB).
Facility Usage and Regulations
In addition to behavioural standards, there are important reminders regarding the use of facilities during hockey events:
- King William’s College (KWC): A reminder that parking is not permitted in front of the astro pitch or in the residential area. We’ve attached a map for clarity on approved parking zones. Please note, the entire school premises, including the grounds, are designated as no smoking/vaping areas, and dogs are not permitted on school property. Should you encounter any issues at KWC, contact the porter at 420919.
- National Sports Centre (NSC) & Regional Pitches: Similar rules apply here as at KWC concerning smoking, vaping, and dogs. We’ve attached the specific pitch rules for your reference. Should any issues arise at these locations, please speak to the attendant on duty or use the contact numbers provided: Office – 688593, Mobile – 431809. These numbers are available from 9:30 am to 10:00 pm on weekdays and 9:30 am to 5:00 pm on weekends.
Conclusion
The MHA is dedicated to maintaining a respectful, enjoyable, and safe environment for everyone involved in Manx hockey. By adhering to the EH Respect Code of Ethics & Behaviour and respecting the regulations around the use of facilities, we can all contribute to a positive hockey community. Let us all work together to uphold these standards and ensure that hockey remains a sport marked by fairness, respect, and camaraderie.
Thank you for your attention to these important matters.
